Standardisation Requirements
It is a condition of Centre Approval that all OCNNWR provision is regularly standardised. All OCN courses are coded according to which of the 15 sectors the course is in (your Business Development Advisor will talk to you about this when preparing for Centre Approval) As part of the OCN Quality Assurance Cycle all Centres are required to attend and participate in standardisation meetings and events.
Cross provider standardisation of units of assessment, methods of assessment and evidence of achievement will take place annually for each sector. This will take place at meetings of similar curriculum areas where representatives of the providers – tutors / internal moderators - provide required evidence and/or sample of learners’ work to include a range of achievement in relation to the given curriculum area. This will involve representative samples from course runs during the year. Standardisation will also include sampling assessment methods. These meetings will be facilitated and recorded by a Business Development Advisor with responsibility for that particular sector.
Standardisation is a Qualification and Curriculum Authority (QCA) requirement for all NOCN Qualifications
The objectives of standardisation meetings are:-
● To ensure the award of credit is secure.
● To standardise courses from across the region by bringing together all providers for each sector
● To create a supportive environment in which to exchange good practice and ensure that the assessment and recording of learner achievement leading to the award of credit is of a common standard across the partnership.
● To review and comment on samples of assessed work provided by colleagues and to identify and discuss issues that arise so that they may be appropriately addressed.
It is important that during the year assessment methods and tasks and a representative sample of learners work is photocopied and retained for the purpose being presented at the standardisation meetings. It is the responsibility of the organisations quality assurance contact to ensure that this happens.
