Training
training
The OCNNWR has a comprehensive schedule of training events planned for the main office in Speke near Liverpool airport, and other venues in Manchester and around the North West region. There are two main types of training:
Centre Support Training for staff at centres new to working with the OCN or for new staff in established OCN centres.
Accredited courses for more experienced staff at OCN centres.
Additionally the OCN can provide bespoke training to meet the particular needs of your centre, for example to address issues identified following quality review, or as preparation for an impending inspection. To discuss this in detail please contact the Quality Manager.
CENTRE SUPPORT TRAINING (CST)
This training is free, costs being covered by your centre recognition fee. Please note due to the popularity of these sessions places are limited and must be booked in advance. If you have not booked on to a session you may be turned away.
1. Administration training
These half-day sessions are available to whoever might benefit from an update on our administration systems and are not restricted to staff from new organisations, indeed we recommend that admin staff attend one of these sessions annually to keep abreast of any changes that might have been introduced. For administration training dates,

2. Introduction to Delivery and Assessment
These one-day sessions are for those who will be delivering and assessing on your OCN provision. The training covers the basics of OCN accreditation and then the principles and practice of OCN assessment. You should bring copies of the unit(s) of assessment that you are planning to deliver, so that exercises on assessment design during the session can be made relevant to your centre.
3. Introduction to Quality Assurance
These one-day sessions are for those expecting to have the role of internal verifier on your OCN provision. We expect that you will have attended an Introduction to Delivery and Assessment session before attending this training. Each centre is limited to 3 places on each of these training events. Please see the
Centre Support Training dates
for more details, and complete the
CST booking form
to reserve a place on one of these courses.
DIRECT CLAIM STATUS
For most types of OCN provision staff in recognised centres may, at some stage, move to Approved Internal Verifiers (AIV) status. Such people will work as internal verifiers but will also have the authority to sign off the award of credit for the courses they are verifying (i.e. direct claim status). To be considered for this role you need two things:
•You must successfully complete one of the verifier training routes above, as appropriate to your experience and/or qualifications.
•Your Quality Reviewer must confirm the robustness, reliability and rigour of your IV systems.
Please note that Approved Internal Verifier status is not available for internal verifiers working with certain NOCN qualifications, such as:
•The NOCN suite of Languages Qualifications.
Also, if you are offering either:
•NOCN Skills for Life Qualifications or,
•NOCN Art and Design Qualifications,
then AIV status may not be available.
You should contact your OCN Business Development Advisor or Quality Reviewer for further advice.
